Diclum ES bids adieu to its long-time Grade Five Teacher
Diclum Elementary School will be having a necrological service on April 4, 2013, 12 noon at Dao Social Hall, in honor of its long-time grade five teacher, Miss Angela F. dela Cruz, 83, who passed away after three years of being bedridden due to an accidental fall in late 2009.
Miss de la Cruz transferred to Diclum Elementary School in 1965 after years of teaching in Lisub, Barasanan, Nasuli, and Igbangcal Elementary Schools. She taught grade five (Grade V-C) from 1965 up to her retirement in 1992. She taught Filipino, Math and Social Studies. Noted for her diligence, Miss de la Cruz was once named as one of the outstanding teachers in the District of Tobias Fornier.
The funeral mass is set on April 4, 2pm at San Nicolas de Tolentino Parish Church right after the necrological service. She will be laid to rest at Dao Catholic Cemetery after the requiem mass.
The Diclum Elementary School community will always remember you, ma'am. Rest in Peace.

Graduation Message of Education Secretary Armin Luistro
To our Dear Pupils, Parents, and Teacher of Diclum Elementary School
Greetings of Peace!
Another school year is coming to a close, signaling a start of a new chapter for most you. You’ll move on to high school, while some of you may immediately join the workforce. Whichever path that stretches out before you, you can be sure that it is a fresh one, a renewed one.
We are entering a period in the world’s history in which many in the old systems are being dismantled, gradually being replaced by newer, and hopefully, better ones. Technology, governments, businesses are fast evolving, recognizing that you, the individual, are a significant part of a bigger whole. You matter, and what you do matters.
The Philippines is no stranger to this transforming reality. More than ever, your country recognizes your role in society, government and the economy. And so we are investing heavily on you; putting our hopes in each one of you.
In education alone, we have introduced changes which aim to equip you with more relevant knowledge and skills for the new economy. The K to 12 Basic Education program is a massive upgrade of lessons, subjects and methods to ensure we are honing your gifts to maximize your potential. You are at the heart of this upgrade. In helping you grow to be the persons you are meant to be, we are helping build the nation’s future.
The fruits of these efforts will take years before they yield fruit, but they will definitely affect, with positive force, all sectors of society. You have the capacity to effect these changes. I pray that you relentlessly seek and build better lives for yourselves and for the larger community around you.
To our parents and teachers at Diclum Elementary School, I thank you for your patience and support as we undergo these radical changes. An investment is not an investment without capital. Your support and sacrifices make up the capital which would bring us to see our children lead and live in a country much transformed by your investment. Thank you!
And to all our partners in education, to our proponents in Congress, local government units, the private sectors and various non-profit organizations, you are well-aware that your generosity in sharing your resources and support will go a long way and return to you hundredfold, in one form or another. Thank you for believing in Filipino youth!
On behalf of the Republic of the Philippines, we congratulate you, our graduates of 2013!
Mabuhay ang Kabataang Pilipino!

Diclum Elementary School joins WWMC the Fourth Time
12/14/2012
Submitted by Terence Dave S. Pelingon, M. Ed.
On their last school day before going on a
Christmas break, 63 sixth grade students of Diclum Elementary School in
the Philippines ecstatically trooped to Diclum River for World Water
Monitoring Challenge 2012, the fourth time the school had since 2009.
Two classes participated, one in the morning and another in the
afternoon. Each class had 5 groups and each of them was assigned at five
different spots within the stretch of Diclum River, including its
surrounding marsh. Though it was a very hot day, students enjoyed
basking under the sun just to know the current state of river where the
life of nearby neighborhoods of the barrio circumvents. It was spring
tide when the WWMC was held, so the students were surprised to see an
unusual level of river water being pushed upstream by sea water near its
mouth. There were also lots of floating debris as the water level
reached further inland. The air temperature was 35ºC while the average
water temperature was 29 ºC. Turbidity at site 1 was 40JTU while it’s 0
JTU at site 2. The DO was 4 ppm, average pH was 7.6, and the average %
saturation was 51.8.
This year, the Water Environment Federation through Ms. Lorien Walsh had
donated to the school a box of ten WWMC kits fresh from Virginia. A
sigh of relief for the class which had been using a single kit for the
whole class in the past three years it had been joining the WWMC. With
these new kits, the class held the event this year more efficiently as
the students no longer had to squabble over scant equipment.
Being a public-supported school in a rural barrio of the Philippines,
the Diclum Elementary School faced numerous hardships with regard to
financing children's activities in their Science class. Yet with the
leadership of its science teacher, Mr. Terence Dave S. Pelingon, and
with the support of the benefactors both local and foreign, the school
achieved success and placed itself on the world stage.

The education department has declared January 26, Saturday, as Early Registration Day in all public schools for school year 2013-2014 to ensure the enrolment of all students in public schools. But enrolment in kindergarten and grade 1 will be prioritized.
This follows the launch last year of DepEd's K to 12 Basic Education Program, in which all 5-year old children are required to study kindergarten.
The program requires kindergarten education as a prerequisite for admission to grade 1, but DepEd has decided to admit even those without kindergarten experience "to achieve universal participation and completion of basic education of all Filipino children."
For school year 2013-2014, those born in October 2008 or earlier shall be eligible for early enrolment in kindergarten, while those born in October 2007 or earlier, with or without kindergarten experience, shall be eligible for early enrolment in Grade 1.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro said that this initiative will enable the department "to make the necessary preparation and to address potential resource needs in time for the opening of classes in June."
The early enrolment will also be open to other levels, particularly to transferees.
Incoming grades II-IV and second to fourth year students who will study in the same school need not enrol, as they will be automatically registered in the next grade or year level. For incoming first year high school students, their elementary schools will submit their names to concerned high schools.
Out-of-school youth included
DepEd will also open the early registration for other elementary and high school levels to accommodate transferees and out-of-school youth.
The department stated that they would like to guarantee that the out-of-school youth, including street children and some members of indigenous groups, will be attending school in school year 2013-2014.
Luistro said they will be provided their preferred education delivery system, which could either be through alternative delivery mode (ADM) or alternative learning system (ALS).
“We are enlisting the assistance of local and barangay officials for the early registration of the out-of-school youth," he said. - Rappler.com
